A report providing data on the amount of aggregate produced by quarries on the Isle of Man, including a forecast of need for future aggregate supplies, will be published by the Department of Infrastructure.
The first ever Annual Minerals Monitoring Report (AMMR 2012) has been endorsed by the Department and will be available from 10th October 2012.
It is the result of 18 months’ work between the Department’s Planning Division, the Department of Economic Development’s Mines and Minerals Division, and key stakeholders in the mineral and recycled aggregate sectors.
Howard Quayle MHK, the Department of Infrastructure’s Political Member with responsibility for Planning, explained: ‘The report provides the baseline information needed to plan for the provision of minerals, which is a key consideration for the economy of the Island.
‘It also identifies major issues affecting aggregate supply and use on the Island, both now and in the future, and it will play a key role in the consideration of planning applications for minerals extraction or aggregate recycling.
‘The report has been prepared in such a way that it can be updated on an annual basis. It will allow us to maintain an on-going dialogue with the industry, and to identify and address issues of National importance for minerals planning.’
Mr Quayle added: ‘We’d like to acknowledge the significant contribution made by those within the minerals and recycled aggregate industry towards the publication of this first Annual Minerals Monitoring Report.’
