Tynwald hosts Committee Secretariat Network conference

by isleofman.com 16th October 2012

The first legislature and assemblies committee secretariat network conference to take place in the Isle of Man has concluded.

Hosted by the Office of the Clerk of Tynwald the conference saw clerks and officers from the legislatures and assemblies of the UK and Crown Dependencies, together with the Republic of Ireland, gather in the Legislative Buildings to discuss matters of common concern against a background of changing economic landscapes and budgetary pressures.

The programme also provided for a tour of the Legislative Buildings led by the President of Tynwald Clare Christian MLC.

Clerk of Tynwald Roger Phillips said: ‘We were pleased to welcome fellow clerks and officers to the conference, which serves as an invaluable forum in which participants are able to share experiences and best practice and also to identify new opportunities. For example, together we can find ways of better harnessing the benefits that technological advances present for delivering greater efficiency to elected members, such as we have found with the improved functionality of the upgraded Tynwald website and our world-leading Hansard transcription system. Without conferences such as these we would not be providing Hansard to Guernsey and Gibraltar, with the prospect of rolling it out to other jurisdictions.’
