Fire crews attended barn fire

by isleofman.com 31st October 2012

Fire crews from Kirk Michael, Ramsey and Douglas fire stations were mobilised to a barn fire well alight on the Ballaugh/Druidale Road at approx 19:13hrs last night.

First crew on scene immediately had to get to work to prevent further spread and to protect the nearby plantation area and rest of the barn.

The fire involved a large amount of pea hay well alight although the wind was strong to gusting it thankfully aided fire fighting by not spreading the fire further into the structure.

Some cattle were relocated without harm and the crews eventually had the fire under control around 21:13 hrs.

Water had to be ferried to the scene in a relay of fire appliances until the arrival of a 4,000ltr water carrier/bowser from Douglas.

Crews were assisted by the farm owner who used a digger to pull the hay apart enabling crews to damp down and eventually extinguish the blaze.

There were no reported injuries, fire investigators and Police SOCO team are back onsite this morning to try and ascertain the cause of the blaze.

The incident was eventually brought to a close around 01:30hrs. In total crews spent around approx 6hrs onsite.
