Netball Reports, Results & Fixtures (League Week 5)

by isleofman.com 1st November 2012

Marbree Motors 27 v Missfits B 27 by Claire Belcher-Smith

Evenly matched from the start, there was nothing separating these two sides, this match even ended in a draw.  Marbree Motors’ Sam Bowden made some great interceptions and linked well with her shooters Christie Morgan & Amy Musson, who both moved well and put some great shots up to the post.  Morgan and Musson seemed to be able to convert from anywhere in the circle! The same could be said for the Missfits girls, Lauren Carey worked really well throughout the game as did Mel Trees. The two girls also linked well and again Trees made some magnificent shots. Both teams worked really hard and played some lovely netball. Well done girls.  POTM: Sam Bowden (Marbree Motors) & Mel Trees (Missfits B).

Route 1 Sparks 29  v  Thompson C  21 by Claire Belcher-Smith

Although 2 players down Route 1 Sparks started very strongly and dominated the first half of the match. Becky Kelly had a great game and made some great driving runs into her shooting circle, finishing the move off with a goal. Kelly and Holly Williamson linked really well together and Alana Downey made some vital interceptions in the game, keeping the Route 1 Sparks girls ahead. Thompson C fought very well and got back into the game, albeit a little late, but with some impressive shots from Lynsey Acheson the Thompson Girls were getting back on track.  There were plenty of penalties and free passes given away by the Thompson girls which ultimately let them down, but some nice play down the court from both teams kept the game flowing.  Well done.  POTM Becky Kelly (Route 1 Sparks) and Lynsey Acheson (Thompson C).

C&S Joinery D 21 v Absolute Scaffolding Aces 22 by Colette Gambell

C&S stepped onto court with a mission and they delivered.  Clearly the stronger team in the first quarter, they were out to prove their worth.  Absolute Aces made many mistakes conceding a number of penalties which added to C&S’ advantage.  A few changes at quarter time in the C&S team allowed Absolute Scaffolding to get back on track, albeit it was no walkover.  With no subs, the Aces had to work hard to get back on track.  C&S stayed strong, and when in possession, moved the ball down the court with swift precision.  Aces’ defense made it tough for the C&S shooters to get a clear shot on goal but their determination and hard allowed them to find better positions in the circle.  Aces never gave up and fought to the end, winning by a single goal.  C&S were unlucky as this game looked to be theirs in the early part of the game but Aces will be relieved to come away with a win.  POTM: Absolute Scaffolding Aces (Gill Cunningham) & Ashley Shimmin.

Results: Missfits B 27 Marbree Motors 27; C&S D 21  Absolute Scaffolding 22; Route 1 Sparks 29  Thompson C 21; Balla C 62  Thompson D 7.
