by isleofman.com 1st November 2012

A pub quiz team in Douglas, Isle of Man, is celebrating today after scooping the top prize on the ?100,000 Rainbow National Lottery Scratchcard – their prize for winning the evening quiz.

Christina Edge who is a member of the five-strong quiz team at The Manor Hotel in Willaston initially thought they had won ?1 and after scratching the card she put it down on the table.  It was only when another member of the quiz team checked the Scratchcard for a second time that they realised they had scooped ?100,000!

Christina said: “We just could not believe it. We thought we had just won ?1. We had to check, double check and triple check to ensure what we were seeing was really true.”

The team has been taking part in the quiz at The Manor for several years and the winning team always receives a National Lottery Scratchcard as their prize.

Christina, who works for the youth charity, Junior Achievement, in Douglas, added: “We have had several small wins but nothing on this scale. I think the number of teams taking part in the quiz will start to increase now we’ve had a big win.  Hopefully they’ll be as lucky as us and a few more people will be made richer as a result of the weekly quiz at The Manor!”

Each member of the team will receive ?20,000 and they are now deciding how to spend their new found fortune.

Christina, who is married to Kevin and has two children, says an Alaskan cruise with her husband is now on the cards. She added that the win will also help her pay off some of her mortgage.

The winning Scratchcard was bought at the Spa Willaston Stores in Snaefell Road, Douglas.
