Peel Fire Crews called out after grill pan fire

by isleofman.com 5th November 2012

In the early hours of Saturday, 3rd November, fire crews turned out to a grill pan fire in a property in the Reayrt Ny Cronk development on the outskirts of Peel. The occupier had woken up to find that the house was full of smoke and had called for assistance.

Upon their arrival fire crews discovered that the blaze had already been extinguished by an attending Police Officer who had entered the property and turned off the cooker. The sole occupier was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation using oxygen therapy equipment.

Fire Safety Message

On this occasion the occupier was very lucky because not all the smoke alarms within the property had not been maintained in working order and one had the batteries removed.

Everyone is encouraged to test their smoke alarms on a weekly basis and not to remove the batteries.

Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service are offering you the opportunity to have a FREE Home Safety Visit carried out by fire fighters from your local area.

During the Home Safety Visit we will look at all areas of accident and fire risk within your home and provide you with suitable advice and information on: kitchen hazards, safe disposal of smoking materials, candles, heaters, electric blankets and any other 'fire' related issues you may have concerns over.  We will also fit a smoke alarm free of charge should it be deemed necessary by our attending fire-fighters.

All visits are made via appointment only.  You can arrange for an appointment to be made by contacting Fire and Rescue Service Headquarters on 647303 during office hours (Mon-Friday 09:00 - 17:00).
