Artwork created by youngsters for a competition organised by The Children’s Centre is to go on display at The Strand Shopping Centre. The Friends Competition challenged school pupils to illustrate what friends mean to them. It ran during October and children could draw, paint, or create a collage. All of the entries will go on display at The Strand Shopping Centre from November 12 to November 17 and shoppers are being asked to vote for their favourite. The entries with the most votes will be included on a shortlist that will then be judged by a panel from The Children’s Centre. The winner will see their artwork featured on the cover of the charity’s annual review publication and on ‘Become a Friend’ donation forms. The Children’s Centre has a ‘Friends’ scheme in which supporters pledge to make monthly donations to help fund charitable projects that work with families, young people and children across the Island. The Friends Competition winner and their classmates will also receive a VIP Out2Play session.
Susie Cox, Community Fundraiser at The Children’s Centre, said:
“Ten schools took part in the competition and all of the pupils put a lot of thought and effort into their artwork. We orgnanised the competiton to coincide with Anti-Bullying Month and to highlight our own ‘Friends’ scheme. Thank you to all of the schools, staff, and children who helped make the competition such a success. We hope that shoppers at The Strand will enjoy seeing the artwork and take a few seconds to vote for their favourite.”
