Two Manx Telecom technicians are believed to be the first on the Island to have gained a specialist qualification. Colm Doherty, Linux and Virtualisation Specialist, and Chris Larkham, Linux and Virtualisation Architect, have become Red Hat Certified Datacenter Specialists (RHCDS) after passing a series of exams and practical tests carried out under close scrutiny. There are fewer than 500 people in the world who have the RHCDS qualification, and for Manx Telecom to have two technicians gaining it is a further endorsement of the high standards provided at its world class data centres which are trusted by Isle of Man Government and many world leading private sector brands.
RHCDS is an advanced-level certification that builds on system administration skills covered by the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification, and enhances it with the capabilities required to build solutions in mission-critical data centre environments using Red Hat technologies. To achieve the RHCDS certification, the student must already hold the RHCE certification and then pass another three laboratory based exams each lasting four hours and covering Enterprise Deployment, Clustering and Storage, Enterprise Directory Services and Authentication. Stephen Trimble, Manx Telecom Hosting and Solutions Manager, congratulated Colm and Chris on their achievements and commented:
“This certification reinforces the diverse range of skill sets our managed services customers enjoy. We believe that we have the highest volume of accredited, experienced and skilled technicians on the Island and their combined expertise enables Manx Telecom to provide true, enterprise class managed services on Open Source platforms running Linux and give our customers the peace of mind that their platform is in safe, qualified hands.”
As well as RHCDS and RHCE certification, Manx Telecom has data centre technicians with a range of other qualifications and accreditations. There is a constant process of evaluating and updating training procedures and accreditations in order to maintain and enhance the company’s world class hosting standards. Red Hat is a leading software company which delivers an enterprise-level, tailored, Linux operating system and related programmes into a single distribution package. The Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system provides a robust, secure and reliable alternative to other open-source Linux variants and is a cost effective alternative to Microsoft’s Server products.
