Albany LTC Latest News

by isleofman.com 12th November 2012

Despite some more rain in the later part of last week the Autumn Albany Open, sponsored by Panacea Pharma Projects  was completed just one hour later than scheduled!  This is thanks to referee Ian Watson and tournament convenor Sally Walker plus the co-operation of players and parents in accepting re-arranged match times.

There were some very good matches, none more so than the “battle” between Elena Snidal and Sarah Breed which ended in a win for Sarah , 7/6 4/6 (10-8) in the additional Women’s singles event. Another very close match was in the semi-final u18 boys singles with Sean Drewry eventually overcoming a stubborn Will Broadhead 6/0,2/6,(12-10). Laura Feely enjoyed her brief trip home by winning the women’s singles r/r and Jack Hedges took the men’s title. The event for U8 beginners is proving a success and these really young players are enjoying competition. The Annual Junior Silver Award was presented to Sean Drewry by club president Bryan Sharp who originally donated the silver plate to be awarded to the junior who was felt to have done a lot both on and off court during the year. The club has a similar award for seniors which will be presented at the Annual General Meeting on Monday 26 November. The prizes were presented by Ian Watson on behalf of PPP.
