The Department of Infrastructure is pleased to announce the issue of a new series of cherished registration marks with the prefix or suffix “Manx” e.g. MANX-(1-999) and (1-999)-MANX from Monday 3rd December 2012. In time, the new range could raise income of over ?12 million for the Department which will be used for highway maintenance work.
The fees for the new “MANX” registration marks start at ?5,000 and have been set at levels equivalent to the high prices presently being obtained on the open market for the current range of registration marks containing the word "MAN" or the letters “MN”. The underlying principle of the fees being that —
• the fewer the number of digits following or preceding the word "MANX" the higher the value of the marks, and
• marks with digits of a special connotation are of a higher value than those without.
David Cretney, Minister for Infrastructure said “ I am pleased that the Department has identified a new range of vehicle registration marks that may be attractive to those wishing to promote Manx products or services and I am delighted that a new service has been developed in conjunction with this initiative which allows customers to choose and pay for cherished numbers on-line which will result in a cherished number certificate being posted to the purchaser.”
Whilst the new “MANX” range will not be available for purchase until 3rd December, the online facility will be available to search for and buy the existing range of cherished numbers from Tuesday 27th November at https://www.gov.im/onlineservices. Prices for this range start from ?100.
In addition, existing holders of cherished numbers held on certificate will also be able to use the online facility to complete the annual renewal. These people will see a special code on their reminder letter which will allow them to renew their certificates by using the on-line payment facility for up to one month after the issue of the reminder letter.
Registration marks can only be bought by customers with a Manx address and further information about the ranges of cherished registration marks available can be found at http://www.gov.im/transport/highways/DandV/welcome.xml.
The new MANX series will be available to purchase online at https://www.gov.im/onlineservices and at Post Offices from Monday 3rd December.
