The IoM Archery Club met at Onchan at the weekend to shoot a Fita 18 as part of the Handicap League. All compound and most of the recurve archers shot on a smaller triple face target. This is the target face that will be used at the up-coming UK National Championships, which several IoM archers will be attending for the first time.
Sunday saw a large number of personal bests achieved for the round. Among these were Rhys Moore who added 42 to his p.b. and Barbara Harris who added 107 to hers. There was also a welcome return to form by Joy Gough. Joy, who had an uncharacteristic miss last week, was just one point off the top score of the day. The top score of 552 was posted by Pete Mumford. However it was Frank Vaughan, shooting the Fita 3 Spot for the first time, who took the win. His impressive debut score of 543 when adjusted for handicap gave him a total of 1454.
The junior archers Bradley Layton and Charlotte Harris shot a Portsmouth round as part of the November Postal Challenge. Also shooting was Ian Harris. This was the first time Ian had shot a full round since passing the Beginner’s Course and he seems to have caught the archery bug.
