Applications are currently being invited for the temporary position of Acting Attorney General of the Isle of Man.
Candidates must be a qualified advocate with at least 10 years experience at the Manx Bar and be able to demonstrate a high level of professional achievement.
Her Majesty’s (Acting) Attorney General will be appointed for a period of 12 months and serve as legal adviser to the Lieutenant Governor, Council of Ministers, Government Department and Statutory Boards, while the current role holder is unable to undertake his duties.
The successful applicant will be required to offer guidance on matters of law and issues relating to the Isle of Man’s domestic and external interests.
Duties also include representing the Crown in the prosecution of offences and assuming responsibility, with the support of the Attorney General’s Chambers, for the drafting of Bills for introduction into the legislature.
In addition, Her Majesty’s (Acting) Attorney General will attend sittings of Tynwald and the Legislative Council.
This is a Crown position and the appointment will be made by Her Majesty The Queen, based on the recommendation made by a selection panel.
Candidates for this temporary post must meet the following criteria –
• A qualified advocate with at least 10 years experience at the Manx Bar;
• A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Manx Law;
• A comprehensive knowledge of court practices and procedures;
• A high level of professional attainment in the practice of law
