Island Shellfish Processing is extremely pleased to announce that it has gained SALSA (Safe and Local Supplier Approval) accreditation, a first for a local business on the island.
The company are based in Port St Mary and supply Queen Scallops to some of the UK’s leading restaurants and eating establishments.
SALSA is a nationally recognised food safety certification scheme specifically developed for small and micro producers and is only granted to suppliers who are able to demonstrate to an auditor that they are able to produce safe and legal food and are committed to continually meeting the requirements of the SALSA Standard.
Nick Pledger of Island Shellfish commented “This is a tribute to all of the team at Island Shellfish who have worked very hard over the past twelve months. Everyone has played their part in gaining this award. Now that we have been successful in acquiring SALSA accreditation we hope to create a greater awareness of a range of Isle of Man Queen Scallops products throughout the UK that will hopefully benefit the industry in the Isle of Man as a whole.
Eleanor Nicholls auditor from Salsa added, “This was a superb first time audit and a real credit to the staff of Island Shellfish.”
Island Shellfish Processing was established in 2011. Since it began processing Queen Scallops it has quickly built up strong relationships with many of the UK’s leading restaurants with their products found on the menus of Jamie’s, Rick Steins Seafood Restaurant, Scotts of Mayfair and Hix’s group of restaurants, to name but a few.
The company takes great pride in offering a friendly and reliable service and ensures where possible to develop strong relationships directly with chefs.
