IoM Archery Report

by isleofman.com 27th November 2012

The Sports Hall at Onchan was packed out at the weekend with archers shooting four to a boss. The round of the day was a Fita 18, shot as part of the club’s Scratch League.

The Men’s Compound saw Pete Mumford lead from start to finish, leaving it to Dave and Colin Moore to fight it out for second place. Colin shot consistently but it was Dave who had carved out a five point lead by the end of the third dozen. Dave then had a miss in the next dozen. Colin took full advantage of this lapse of concentration to turn the five point deficit into a seven point lead going into the last dozen. Here Dave Moore had another miss while Colin shot solidly to take the second step on the podium.

The Women’s Compound match was a much closer contest with Sarah Rigby and sisters Aalin and Kirsten George all equal after the first dozen. Aalin then opened up a two point lead over Sarah Rigby which she held onto before running out the eventual winner by five points. Kirsten, lacking practice due to illness, faded a little and it was Joy Gough who took the last place on the podium.
The Men’s Recurve contest was a one sided affair with Matt Smith running out the winner 114 points ahead of his nearest rival. This was Kerry Boland who added 11 points to his p.b. for the round.

Barbara Harris was the only female recurve archer to shoot the round and she managed to add another 32 points to her personal best. Her daughter Charlotte, not to be outdone, recorded a personal best in the Junior Portsmouth round adding 19 points to her previous best. This was not good enough to beat Bradley Layton however who put in a score of 524.

Ian Harris and Rob Lott also shot a Portsmouth. Rob Lott continued his week on week improvement to record a new personal best score of 499. An under-the-weather Karen Lott started slowly in her Portsmouth round but finished very strongly with some high scoring, tightly grouped arrows of which she was justifiably proud.
