The Government’s Survey of Household Spending is underway, with the first letters having gone out to a batch of 200 randomly sampled households.
“The letters explain the need for the survey and ask anyone who does not wish to participate to let us know to stop them being contacted any further” says Economic Advisor Stephen Carse, whose Treasury Division is responsible for the conduct of the survey. “Those willing to take part should receive a doorstep call from one of our interviewers over the course of December”.
“The survey will be ongoing, to enable us to collect data over a full 12-month period, although any individual household is only involved for two weeks. Over this period they are asked to note their spending on goods and services.”
The survey is designed ultimately to include around 1,000 Island households, so as to provide for a close representation of the spending of all residents. The results will be used to help confirm the share of VAT and customs revenue due to the Isle of Man under its Customs and Excise Agreement with the UK.
