Quarterly GP Education Sessions launched

by isleofman.com 4th December 2012
The public will all be aware of the vital need for GPs to keep up to date with the latest developments in medicine in their endeavour to provide the highest quality of care to all their registered patients.  In order to assist with their education and development, the GPs, in liaison with the Department of Health, have made arrangements to take part in a quarterly Education Session, the first of which will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday, 5 December.  This will create an opportunity for GPs to meet together, to share good practice, and to learn new skills.

Each of the Island’s GP Practices will remain open on the afternoon of 5 December for patients who wish, for example, to make appointments, collect test results or order repeat prescriptions.  Practice Nurses will be working as usual.  Provision has been made for any patient who is in need of urgent GP attention to be seen by an on-call GP in a similar way to out of hours cover.

Patients are asked to support this important initiative by only contacting their surgery to consult with a doctor during the afternoon of the 5 December if they have an urgent need that cannot wait until the following morning.
