Proposals for a wind farm in the Irish Sea go on public display in Port St Mary today, Friday 30, as Centrica starts a formal consultation with the Manx community on its plans for the Rhiannon wind farm, off the north Wales coast.

Rhiannon is one of three zones in the Irish Sea earmarked by the developer but does not directly affect shipping routes to and from the Island.

However the Steam Packet Company, which is worried about the north-east zone much nearer the Isle of Man, has raised concerns about the cumulative effect of wind farms in the Irish Sea.

Centrica says it views concerns about its proposals extremely seriously and no formal proposal for the north east area will be submitted without further engagement with the Manx government and other stakeholders in the Isle of Man.

The exhibition opens at Mount Tabor Methodist church hall in Port St Mary at 11 this morning until 7pm.

It moves to the iMuseum in Douglas on Saturday (10am-5pm) and to Ramsey town hall on Monday (11am-7pm).
