Hopes for uptake in bowel cancer screening

by isleofman.com 28th November 2012

It's hoped more people in the Isle of Man will take advantage of Bowel Cancer screening.

The programme started on the Island last year on a trial basis and aims to save the lives of eight people each year.

It's offered to those in the 60 to 69 age group with the aim of finding the disease before it shows any obvious symptoms.

If caught early it can be treated very successfully.

Around 50 people attended the latest Cancer Users' Forum 'Meet the Consultants' event which took place on Monday. During the evening associate specialist surgeon Chenji Ratnavel explained more about the programme and gave those attending an opportunity to ask questions.

These people say they hope the message about the screening programme will now be more widely heard and take up will improve
