Greg Kelly, who sails with the Isle of Man Yacht Club at Port St Mary is to receive international recognition.

The 14-year-old will pick up one of youth sailing's most prestigious awards in the new year, the RYA North West Regional Young Sailor of the Year Award 2012, in recognition of his achievements and dedication to the sport throughout the year.

The year has seen him win the world championships in the RS Tera Class of dinghy, following the example of elder brother James who took the same title two years ago.

Greg travelled to Italy to achieve his victory on the international stage and a month later won the UK Inland Championship for the class.

He has been on the national youth squad for the past three years and hopes to move up to a more senior class soon, again aiming to compete in both national and international events.

On Saturday, January 12 at the Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show, Greg will join 12 other RYA Regional Award winners from all over the UK for a VIP day out at the show, which includes the awards ceremony.
