Four fire crews from Ramsey and Kirk Michael were called out on Saturday night (17 November) to fight a blaze at a bungalow in Sulby.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus removed roof tiles to tackle flames which had engulfed the loft of the property in Carrick Park, at around 6pm.
The operation which involved use of a thermal image camera, lasted two hours as crews fought to clear the loft and stop the fire reaching an LPG cylinder stored there.
The hallway ceiling collapsed causing extensive damage in the bungalow.
A flue in a wood burning stove has been traced as the cause of the fire.
With all local tenders involved in the incident, a fire crew from Laxey was put on standby to provide cover in the north of the Island.
Officers are urging the public to make sure any fires in their homes are installed properly, and to test smoke alarms each week.
