Champs cruise to go two clear

by isleofman.com 17th November 2012

Reigning champions St George’s are two points clear of the Canada Life Premier League.

As they thrashed lowly Castletown 9-0, courtesy of goals from Reece Thompson (three), Chris Bass (three), Callum Morrissey, Sam Caine and Mark Teare, nearest rivals Laxey needed a last-gasp equaliser to earn a 2-2 draw with Peel.

The westerners led through Lee Gale and Marc Kelly but were pegged back through Ashley Webster and Chris Brown to rescue the Miners a point.

St Mary’s consolidated third spot but bottom club Marown pushed them all the way.

Goals from Marc Priestnal and Steve Priestnal put the Saints into a two-goal lead and, although Gary Chrisrian pulled one back, it wasn’t enough and they remain pointless.

Old Boys may be out of the Railway Cup qualification reckoning but their return to form continued with a 6-1 home success over Union Mills.

A hat-trick from Darren Hudgeon, two from Craig Stewart and one from Callum Stewart sealed the points for Brian Gartland’s side.

Steven Quine netted the Millers’ consolation.

The importance of John Haggerdon’s first half goal could become clear next week.

That sealed a 1-0 victory for St John’s at Ramsey to keep alive their Railway Cup hopes.

Rushen hit Corinthians for six at Ballafletcher with three in each half.

A hat-trick from Steve Riding, one from the penalty spot, a double from Aaron Hawley and one from Jack Saxon did the damage.
