Budgets are not being cut when it comes to adult services in the Isle of Man.

That's according to the Department of Social Care who first announced a plan to shift the focus from residential to community based care back in February.

The idea is to help vulnerable people, especially the elderly, to live independently at home for longer.

Before now around 80 per cent of resources had been spent on residential care, with the remaining 20 on home care, the aim is to almost reverse that.

It has meant closing certain facilities, one of them being the Glenside Home, which caused some concern.

But Assistant Director for Adult Services Cath Hayhow says it wasn't fit for modern day care, adding that most residents have been moved to somewhere more suitable and all staff redeployed.

Mrs Hayhow also says far from closing everything more units are being opened around the Island.

Meanwhile there is also good new about the Gansey Unit at Southlands which was forced to close at the end of August.
