On 8 November 2012 the Isle of Man Insurance and Financial Services Institute (IFSI) welcomed speakers from the Insurance & Pensions Authority, Financial Supervision Commission and the Office of the Data Protection Supervisor at their annual half-day CPD event. Topics covered included updates in respect of recent progress on international insurance initiatives such as Solvency II and G-SIIs, the retail distribution review (“RDR”) and its adoption by the Island, pensions advice, the risks of “cloud computing”, corporate and social networks, and updates to the EU Data Protection Directive . The regulatory update was then followed by a workshop on data and cyber risk insurance solutions delivered by Hiscox UK.
Karen Ladly, President and Honorary Education Secretary of the IFSI, stated “Our half-day Regulatory Update is always very well attended and this year was no exception. This was in no small way due to the support of Gill Marples who in addition to being the Deputy Chairman of the Manx Insurance Association is also a valued member of the IFSI Council. In addition, council member Sarah Hewitt of Marsh IOM Limited was key in being able to secure speakers from the Hiscox UK cyber risks team and our thanks must also go to Sarah for her efforts in persuading the cyber risk team to travel to the Isle of Man for our event”.
Oriana Hills, Deputy President of the IFSI, added “It is thanks to the ongoing support of both the IPA and the FSC, and once again the support of the ODPS, that we were able to provide such a relevant event to members and non-members alike. Initial feedback from delegates has been extremely positive, and we aim to continue delivering this event in future years.”
The next IFSI event, Insurance Financials for Non-Accountants, is scheduled to take place on 6 December 2012 at Douglas Bay Yacht Club; registration details are included on the IFSI website events page and non-members are welcome to attend.
