The Isle of Man Road Safety partnership (Isle of Man Constabulary, Road Safety Unit & Vehicle Testing Centre) have completed visits to 12 primary schools throughout the island this week to advise motorists about the correct use of Child seats & safety restraints.
 
We have spoken with more than 100 parents & children to advise them of the correct seats and restraints to be used in vehicles. We have issued advice only during this week in an attempt to educate everyone.
 
The children have enjoyed having their height measured and we hope that this aids learning.
 
The feedback from those on the school run has been good and we will look at repeating this initiative in the future to cover schools we couldn’t get to this time.

PC Mike Crompton of the Road Policing Unit & Gordon Edwards, Road Safety Manager said:

“We would like to thank everyone for their time and patience this week. The main issue we have highlighted is that numerous drivers bring their friends children to school without  booster seats for them. Also sometimes mum & dad have different cars and the seats are kept in the other car. Please ensure that you as the adult take extra care of the children in your vehicle.”
