A Question of Sport event raised £4,000 for The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects. Nine teams took part in the contest based on the long-running BBC quiz show. A team from Barclays - competing as the ‘Come On You Blues’ team - won the competition and received a trophy to commemorate their victory. There was also a prize for the best dressed team which went to staff from SMP Partners who called themselves the ‘John Daly Fan Club’ as a tribute to the golfer famed for his garish garb. Manx Radio Sports Editor Tim Glover was the question master, and each team was aided by a Manx sporting personality including TT star Conor Cummins, four times Parish Walk winner Jock Waddington, and Paralympic cycling medallist Ian Sharpe.
Michelle O'Malley, Fundraising Manager at The Children’s Centre, said:
“We would like to thank everyone who took part - it was a great evening and everyone really entered into the spirit of the event. All money raised on the evening will go towards supporting our charitable projects, including the Child Contact Centre. This project enables children to maintain contact with both parents when families may be going through separation or divorce. It is the only of its kind on the Island and is offered completely free of charge to ensure all children have the opportunity for contact.”
The Question of Sport event was held in the Cushag Suite at the Best Western Palace Hotel and included many familiar rounds featured in the BBC show such as the picture round and ‘What happened next?’ There was also a raffle and an auction of sporting memorabilia.
