Employees of Barclays across the Isle of Man, Glasgow, Cyprus, Jersey, Guernsey, Gibraltar and Northwich recently took part in a range of fundraising activities as part of a ‘£50k in 5 days’ challenge.
Inspired by Challenge 500, a Prince’s Trust scheme, staff took part in a number of fundraising challenges over five days with the aim of raising £25,000 for local charities which would then be matched pound for pound by Barclays.
A number of events were organized by the team in the Isle of Man including a football tournament, sponsored walk, abseiling, sky dives, cake sales, an in-branch triathlon and a car wash. The initial £50,000 target was surpassed by a long way with over £63,000 being raised altogether. Of that sum, £20,000 was contributed by the Isle of Man team with its Charity of the Year, Crossroads Care benefitting to the tune of over £13,000.
Lawrence Looney, coordinator of the ‘£50k in 5 days’ challenge said: ‘Numerous events across the Isle of Man raised a significant amount of money for our Charity of the Year, Crossroads Care as well as other local charities. The Isle of Man raised more than any other location and money is still coming in to add to the total. I would like to thank everyone who either helped organise an event or donated money to this worthy cause, your support has helped us exceed all expectations and highlight what it really means to be part of the community.’
