Barn blaze tackled

by isleofman.com 31st October 2012

A huge blaze in Druidale last night was tackled by fire crews from Ramsey, Kirk Michael and Douglas.

The fire started shortly after 7pm in a barn on the Ballaugh to Druidale Road, and quickly tore through pea hay.

Firefighters had to relocate cattle and ensure a nearby plantation didn’t catch light.

The farm owner helped by pulling apart the burning hay pile with a digger.

Fire crews spent six and a half hours making sure the fire was out and the area was safe.

The Fire and Rescue service says although the wind was strong, it did its part to help by keeping the fire from spreading further into the barn.

Water had to be ferried to the scene via a relay of fire engines until a 4,000 litre bowser arrived from Douglas.

Nobody was injured in the blaze and investigations involving police officers are trying to find out what caused the incident.
