Church defends memorial changes

by isleofman.com 30th October 2012

The Dean of St German's Cathedral is defending the changes that have been made to the war memorial in the church grounds.

Reverend Nigel Godfrey says the removal of a wall and creation of a flat circular lawn around the monument makes it more accessible and also looks much better.

There has been criticism from the Island's War Memorials Preservation Committee who feel it has limited disabled access and say the church didn't have the authority to carry out such work.

But Reverend Godfrey says all legal requirements were fulfilled, although he acknowledges they did not contact the war memorials committee.
