Geordies top after heated win at Bowl

by isleofman.com 27th October 2012

It was a big weekend in the Island’s top division, with first and third facing up, as well as second and fourth.

A 2 – 1 Laxey win against St John’s in the first Friday night fixture of the season meant they created a six point gap between themselves and Geordies at the top of the table.

It meant St George’s had to win if they wanted to keep the pressure on Laxey and that’s exactly what they did beating St Mary’s 3 - 0 in a heated affair at the Bowl.

It was a scrappy affair with both sides having a man sent off. Johnny Myers and Keiron McNulty scored for the away side during the first half in a game which fizzled out in the second forty five.

A ten men Rushen side managed to clinch three points at home to Union Mills, despite losing Michael Baker for a last man challenge in the first half. The game ended 3 – 2 to Rushen with Mike Williams scoring two and Keiron Brown bagging one for the southerners.

Peel and Douglas High School Old Boys shared the points in a closely fought 1 – 1 draw in the west of the Island. Peel went one up through Stephen Tidy before Old Boys equalized from the penalty spot.

In a bottom of the table clash Gyms secured an important three points at home to Ramsey, with the game finishing 3 – 1
.
Shock of the weekend came in the south of the Island as Castletown managed to beat Corinthians 2 – 1.

Marown had a free week meaning they stay pointless at the bottom of the table.
