Defence sums up at by-election trial

by isleofman.com 23rd October 2012

Celebrity chef Kevin Woodford's involvement in the 2010 Douglas East by-election has been referred to in court.

Defence counsel Nigel Hamilton QC, as he gave his closing statement this morning on behalf of his client, Kerry Rothwell, told the jury that, based on the evidence they had heard, there was a prima facie case against Mr Woodford.

He urged the jury to acquit 25-year-old Miss Rothwell of Onchan who, along with 40-year-old Gail Corrin of Douglas, denies dishonestly obtaining proxy votes for Mr Woodford in the 2010 Douglas East by-election.

Mr Woodford has always denied knowledge of any wrongdoing and was called to appear earlier in the trial as a prosecution witness.
