Roadworks on Derby Road and Atholl Street, Peel

by isleofman.com 19th October 2012

The Department of Infrastructure advises that major footway maintenance work will commence on Derby Road on Monday 22nd October 2012, with work on Atholl Street commencing in early January 2013.

The work will be carried out in two phases.  The first phase of the works will be the reconstruction of the footways and carriageway in Derby Road between the western boundary of the Cathedral precinct and Atholl Place.  Due to the width of the road, the works will take place under a total road closure and are expected to last for 8 weeks.  Bus Vannin have advised that buses will operate from the existing bus stops on Albany Road.  Pedestrians and vehicle drivers are asked to follow the diversion signs, although access to the Town Hall will not be affected as the one way system to Mona Street has been suspended.  Atholl Street will operate as a one way system, travelling in a north-east direction from Tynwald Road to Atholl Place.

The Department is taking the opportunity to use high quality materials for the footways in both Derby Road and Atholl Street due to high pedestrian usage and the proximity of these routes to the Peel Regeneration area.

The works will be suspended for the Festive Period and the second phase of the works, the renewal of the footways in Atholl Street, will commence in early January 2013 when it is anticipated that the works will be completed by mid-March 2013.

The Department will issue further information as the works progress.

The Department would like to thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation.  If you have any concerns or queries regarding the work, please phone 850000.
