The Department of Social Care is happy to announce that as part of its programme of rebalancing adult services the first residents have moved into to the newly opened Surby Unit in Southlands Resource Centre.
A key aspect of the rebalancing process was to move resources from areas where there was over provision of residential services to areas where there was high unmet demand. The South had been identified as requiring more residential care beds.
Surby Unit was opened at the beginning of October and as of 12th October 2012 three residents have moved in. It is expected that two more will move in next week, with the remaining beds in the 12 bed unit being occupied by the end of December.
The Minister for Social Care Hon Chris Robertshaw MHK stated “that it was gratifying to see the rebalancing programme bearing fruit. The South has required increased capacity for some time and thanks to the willingness of staff to transfer from Douglas this has now been delivered. I would like to thank them for that willingness”.
