Keys boundary changes agreed

by isleofman.com 17th October 2012

Detailed proposals for 12 new two-seat House of Keys constituencies around the Island will be drawn up after Tynwald gave a Boundary Review Committee the green light to complete its work.

Following more than two hours of debate last night (Tuesday), including four separate amendments, the court supported a move by 19 votes to 10.

The committee’s second interim report proposes 24 MHKs be elected from 12 two-seat constituencies, each with broadly equivalent voter numbers.

They will now have to define the boundaries and report back to Tynwald no later than next June.

At the end of the debate, Chief Minister Allan Bell apologised to committee members who were on the receiving end of some criticism during the debate.
