Six members of the Barclays Isle of Man Intermediaries Team recently took part in a beach clean of the Ayres.
The volunteers battled strong winds to complete the challenge and, with guidance and assistance from Anne Marie Kilgallon of the Manx Wildlife Trust and Louise Samson from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture collected ten large sacks of non-biodegradable litter from a stretch of beach just 250 metres long.
Ayres beach is approximately 9 kilometres in length, meaning that, in theory, 360 sacks of rubbish could have been collected along the whole beach.
Barclays Simon Everett led the team, and said: ‘We were really pleased with the results of our efforts during the beach clean. Despite the less than ideal weather conditions, all of the volunteers pulled together and managed to clear a significant section of the beach.
‘Everyone is very proud at what we have achieved, and we will be back again with even more people to help keep the Isle of Man beaches clean.’
