Police are looking to trace a dark hatchback as they continue to investigate the damage caused to around 70 vehicles in the south of the Island on Sunday evening.

The vehicles had what's believed to be some sort of solvent sprayed on them, ruining paintwork and melting plastic fittings.

Officers say the hatchback they're looking for had two 'L' plates on the rear and two on the bonnet, and was seen on the Honna Road junction with the Bradda Road at about 8:15pm.

Sergeant Gary Heaton of The Southern Neighbourhood Policing Team Police says, "The vehicle may prove vital in relation to the enquiry and I would urge the driver to contact the police to assist us with our enquiry."

Sergeant Heaton says the south's force is having its resources stretched to the limit by the investigation.

He says as an interim measure police will be writing to the victims with information on how to obtain a crime reference number and other information to help, which will be hand delivered but at a time when it may not be feasible to talk to them.

He's also reminding the public of the reward offered by Crimestoppers of up to ?1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the damage.
