A report providing data on the amount of aggregate produced by quarries in the Isle of Man, including a forecast of need for future aggregate supplies, has been published by the Department of Infrastructure.
The first ever Annual Minerals Monitoring Report (AMMR 2012) has been endorsed by the department and is available from today.
It is the result of 18 months’ work between the department’s Planning Division, the Department of Economic Development’s Mines and Minerals Division, and firms in the mineral and recycled aggregate sectors.
The Department of Infrastructure’s Political Member with responsibility for Planning, Howard Quayle MHK, says, "The report provides the baseline information needed to plan for the provision of minerals, which is a key consideration for the economy of the Island.
"It also identifies major issues affecting aggregate supply and use on the Island, both now and in the future, and it will play a key role in the consideration of planning applications for minerals extraction or aggregate recycling."
