As part of Standard Bank’s 150th anniversary celebrations, staff in the Isle of Man will be ‘stepping up’ to support local man Roger Davies in his ‘million steps challenge’ for Manx Cancer Help.
As a corporate sponsor of Roger’s challenge, Standard Bank was keen to enhance its support through fundraising and decided to challenge staff to climb 150,000 steps in recognition of the Group’s 150 year anniversary on Friday 12th October.
The 20 staff who have volunteered to swap their work wear for workout gear, will take turns to climb up and down the staircase in their Douglas office until they reach the joint goal of 150,000 steps. Roger Davies has agreed to come along during the day to offer words of advice and encouragement to the team and talk about his own inspirational challenge.
Ian Hamilton, Head of Corporate & Business Banking, Standard Bank Isle of Man said: “We decided to sponsor Roger in his million steps challenge as we recognised that this was an extraordinary commitment to a very important local cause and we wanted to support Roger in any way we could. We were also keen to engage our staff in our sponsorship and by undertaking the challenge of 150,000 steps in one day our staff will get a little taste of what Roger is doing on a daily basis for an entire year.
He added; “We are absolutely delighted to be marking our 150th anniversary in a way that we are able to give something back to the community and will I am sure leave a lasting memory with all involved. We also take this opportunity to wish Roger all the very best with his challenge.”
Roger Davies aims to reach the million steps target by completing an average minimum of 2740 steps per day every day for 365 days to raise £25,000 for Manx Cancer Help.
He started the challenge in May 2012. For more information about the million steps challenge and Roger Davies please visit www.millionsteps.co.uk.
