Inflation rate increase in August

The annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Prices Index (RPI) has increased in September to 2.8%, from 2.1% for August 2012.

 

The annual rate of inflation excluding housing costs shown by the RPI also increased in September to 2.2%.

 

The annual rate of inflation shown by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose to 1.8%, up from 1.3% in August.

 

The biggest price increases in the month were in the categories of clothing/footwear and cigarettes/tobacco. There was little change in food prices, in personal goods and in restaurant prices, whilst average prices fell for leisure goods.
