Fire crews tackle outbuilding blaze

by isleofman.com 1st October 2012

Investigations are continuing into the cause of a fire at a property on Quarterbridge Road in Douglas at the weekend.

The alarm was raised in the early hours of Saturday, when the occupant was woken by a red glow in an outbuilding at his property.

Just as crews arrived the roof collapsed, sending flames shooting 30 feet into the air, scorching trees and showering the area with embers.

Firefighters needed an extra hose to bring the flames under control, in an operation lasting around 90 minutes.

Manx Electricity Authority engineers were called to make the electric supply to the outbuilding safe.

The cause of the blaze still isn't known.
