Two government ministers formed a Manx delegation at the Liberal Democrat Party autumn conference last week.

Economic Development Minister John Shimmin and Social Care Minister Chris Robertshaw spoke to party members about the Island's contribution to the UK Coalition.

They also attended the keynote address in Brighton by party leader, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

The trip was part of the government’s programme to promote awareness and understanding of the Island within the UK’s main political parties.

Both MHKs held a series of informal discussions with ministers, peers and senior policy advisors, as well as attending meetings on a range of issues including the economy and social and welfare reform.

They also listened to an important discussion on how to stimulate business investment and the importance of improved training for vital workers such as engineers.

Government officials say they received a very positive response and made a number of worthwhile political and business contacts.
