Fire Service called to flat fire

On Thursday 27 September 2012 at 1920 a call was received via 999 to a report of a fire in a flat in Malew Street Castletown.

 

Two appliances from Castletown, one from Douglas and the duty officer were mobilised to the address.

 

Upon arrival it was discovered that the flat had been evacuated, however it was smoke logged.
 
Two firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the flat to discover the fire involved the electrical consumer unit.

The electrical supply to the flat was isolated and the flat was cleared of smoke by the crew from Castletown fire station.

On this occasion no serious damage was sustained to the flat and no one was injured.

It is important that owners and occupiers regularly test and maintain any automatic fire detection installed within their properties and that an escape plan is established and practised in case of a fire occurring.
