The investiture ceremony of three well known local personalities took place at Government House last night (Tues)
David Downie, William Kneale and Eleanor Shimmin received their awards from Governor Adam Wood on behalf of the Queen.
Mrs Shimmin had been awarded the British Empire Medal for her contribution to music teaching on the Island over a period of more than half a century
She says she's always taken great pride in watching her former students go on to great things
Mr Kneale was honoured with the BEM in recognition of his commitment to ex service communities on the Island. Major Charles Wilson explained why he had put Mr Kneale forward for the award.
Meanwhile, Mr Downie received an MBE for his 30 years pioneering work at the hyperbaric chamber . . .where's he's raised more than ?2 million to keep its running. He had elected to receive his MBE on the Island.
