The Manx Aviation and Military Museum is planning a permanent display to honour Major Robert Henry Cain, the only Manxman in the Second World War to receive Britain’s highest military award for gallantry, the Victoria Cross.

The display will not only commemorate Major Cain, but also the operation he was famous for playing a large role in – the battle for the Rhine bridge at Arnhem, Holland - Operation Market Garden.

However, the museum also wants to recognise and honour the other Manxmen who were involved in the mission.

Due to the nature of war-time communication there is a lack of detail to confirm some of the details of the airborne aspect of the battle in September 1944.

The museum wants to gain more information about other troops who were potentially involved in the operation.
The names of the other troops are:

John Corkhill
John Thomas Gray
Lewis Nelson Halsall
Roy Kneale
Clifford Roberts
Geoffrey White
Dan Wright

They also urge anyone who's Manx-born and served in or over Arnhem as part of Operation Market Garden between September 17 and 26, 1944, or their family members, to come forward.
