Race walkers revel in Roubaix

Island race walkers produced some superb showings in France in the Roubaix 28 hour race.

Joint Manx Telecom Parish Walk winners Vinny Lynch and Richard Gerrard led the way with second and third places respectively.

Lynch completed 144.46 miles in the test of endurance in 27 hours, 55 minutes 29 seconds.

Gerrard completed 141.95 miles in 27.56.48.

Four-time Parish Walk winner Jock Waddington was fifth overall as he walked 136.30 miles in 27.57.49.

The race was won by Hungarian Zoltan Czukor who walked 145.72 miles in 27.48.36.

The other locals also performed well with Andrew Titley 13th overall, David Walker 21st, Chris Cale 23rd, Janette Morgan 34th and the fifth woman overall and Ronnie Kelly 39th.
