By-election trial due to start

by isleofman.com 17th September 2012

It’s hoped the trial of seven people accused of election fraud will start later today (Monday).

The defendants are charged with a range of offences relating to the Douglas East by-election in May 2010.

The prosecution could outline its case this afternoon.

Seven jurors – three men and four women – were last week sworn in ahead of the case.

They were warned by judge Deemster Turner not to speak to anyone about the case nor research it on the internet but purely to consider what evidence they will hear over the next few months.
