Champions show their character

Reigning champions Valkyrs launched their title defence by showing the character that made them champions.

They fought back from 3-1 down to defeat Vikings 4-3 in Wi-Manx Mixed Premier Division, courtesy of goals from Chris Caldwell, Russell Miller (two) and Gareth Morris.

Steven Underwood and Sandy Harding (two) had fired Vikings into the lead.

Arch rivals Bacchas A put seven past newly promoted Vikings B.

Kim Carney, Andy Whiting, Johnny Callow (two), Jamie Brown, Sharon Pope and Karl Moore scored in the 7-1 romp.

Kat Gallagher notched the Vikings consolation.

Celts started the season in fine form as they came from behind to defeat Bacchas B 3-1.

Sven Lindeque (two) and Paul Kelly were on target after Richard Le Page had given Bacchas the lead.
