Peel triumph in big match

by isleofman.com 16th September 2012

The race for the Canada Life Premier League remains wide open early on in the new campaign.

Yesterday (Saturday), Laxey stayed top without even playing.

Reigning champions St George’s moved up to second and Peel moved above St Mary’s after ending their 100 per cent record at the Bowl with a 3-2 triumph.

The westerners took the lead through Kerron Christian before the Saints turned the match in their favour with goals from Marc Priestnal and Steve Priestnal.

However, Peel fought back through Christian before Neil Birchenough got the all-important winner.

St George’s moved ominously into second with a 3-0 victory over Corinthians.

Skipper Sean Quaye, Johnny Myers and Sam Caine were on target for the reigning champions.

Old Boys returned home with three points after being given a scare by Ramsey at Ballacloan.

Callum Stewart (two) and Ian Kirk won the match for Brian Gartland’s side but were pushed hard with Michael Fernandez and Matthew Montgomery scoring for Ramsey.

2010 champions Rushen ran riot in the first half at Gymns.

The southerners led 4-0 to seal the game by the break, eventually winning 5-2 with goals from Jordan Watterson, Steve Riding, Furo Davies, Adam Kelly and Jack Saxon.

Gymns restored some pride in the second half through Jeremy Lovett and Steve Cretney.

St John’s had too much for Castletown with a 5-0 home success.

Andy Glover was the star with a hat-trick with Steven Glover and Sam Ingham grabbing the others.

The battle of the newly promoted sides was won emphatically by Union Mills.

They hit Marown for six at Crosby.

Steven Quine hit a hat-trick and was joined on the scoresheet by Kyle Uren, Matty Caine and an own goal.

Nigel Shimmin notched the home side consolation.
