Packet reports increased bike numbers to MGP

by isleofman.com 4th September 2012

The number of motorbikes brought to the Island for this year's MGP was up 9.4 per cent on last year.

The Steam Packet says it carried 2,890 bikes during the festival, up from 2,641.

It's confirmation the upward trend of recent years continues, as the 2011 figure was itself 12 per cent up on the year before.

While the figure for motorbikes is regarded as the key indicator for MGP visitor numbers, the Packet's reported a only small rise in passengers overall during the festival period, of 136 extra visitors.

Steam Packet Chief Executive Mark Woodward described the figures as a 'pleasing trend' for the Island as a whole, with bike numbers also up for this year's TT and Southern 100 races.
