Arran Kaighin resigns commissioners seat

by isleofman.com 31st August 2012

Peel commissioner Arran Kaighin has resigned from the town’s board with immediate effect.

The 43 year old, of Douglas Street in Peel, is currently in prison awaiting trial on charges of possessing indecent images of children between January 2010 and August this year.

He’s due to appear in court again via live link on September 18.

Clerk of Peel Town Commissioners Peter Ledley confirmed a letter was sent to the board, which has accepted his resignation.

Mr Kaighin’s resignation will spark a by-election in Peel, where in April all nine board members were returned unopposed.

The timetable for the election will be advertised next week, but Mr Ledley says the likely date for the town to go to the polls will be Thursday, October 18.

Peel commissioners say they won’t be making any further comment about Mr Kaighin’s resignation.
