Kayak safety advice issued in wake of incidents

An outdoor pursuits instructor says there are some simple steps to take to make sure you’re safe in your kayak.

Yesterday, a mum tried to swim out to her young son after he hit difficulties in Derbyhaven – the second such incident around the Island’s coast this summer.

Keirron Tastagh of Adventurous Experiences says people should make sure they know the state of the sea and the weather before they venture out – and tell someone where they’re going.

He says the sea can be a treacherous place for the unprepared:
